The RhinoHorn plastic netipot available here.  The new neti pot model now includes the Rhino spoon.

When I had my nasal surgery in Fort Worth, TX back in 1999, my nose and allergy specialist had me to start using a solution of "canning salt" (because it is pure) and baking soda mixed in warm water.  I was instructed to get a baby nasal syringe to squirt the saline mixture in each nostril to keep drainage from hardening or clogging the nasal cavity.

At the time, I wished that I had something that would fit snugly against my nostril and had more volume than the baby nasal syringe.  I tried the ceramic neti-pots, but it did not fit my Texas size nose.  In time the ceramic netipot was broken accidentally.

I then found the Rhino Horn plastic Neti-pot.  I stuck with my doctors instructions on how to mix "canning salt" and baking soda and started using the non-glass Rhino Horn Neti-pot.

The Rhino Horn plastic netipot is so easy to use that I use it daily and sometimes morning and night.  Once I found the "canning salt", baking soda, and warm water mixture for my comfort level, I cannot stand a day without using the plastic neti pot.  This has become as important to me as brushing my teeth and tongue everyday.

This takes some experimenting to find the mixture and temperature to assure a pleasant nasal cleansing, but since I found my level, I cannot imagine ever stopping this daily cleansing.

The Rhino Horn is plastic and light weight; therefore, I can carry it with me on trips and never have to worry about having broken glass in my bags or in the restroom.

The instructions below from Norway do not mention "canning salt" and "baking soda"; however, I found that following my Texas doctor's advice, life is much better.

The medical community in Norway has responded with great enthusiasm to the Rhino Horn.  More than one third of registered Norwegian doctors as well as half the ENT specialists recommend nasal cleansing with Rhino Horn.

In the doctor's own words:

"This method of rinsing the nose with lukewarm saltwater is an easy and gentle way of removing crusts and foreign particles from the nasal passages. It's simple to do and has no harmful side effects. It has proved to be highly effective in the prevention and treatment of sinusitis and is also a useful component in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. Those suffering from pollen and dust allergies may in many cases reduce their symptoms by practicing nasal cleansing."

Folk traditions and Yoga
Nasal cleansing has been incorporated in folk medicine in many areas of the world and is a natural method of medical treatment.

Fishermen all over the world have rinsed their nasal passages with salt water for generations.

In some African tribes, nasal cleansing is referred to as a "purifier of thoughts" i.e. clearing the head.

In the Yoga tradition, nasal cleansing is one of several cleansing processes.

Yoga is an ancient system of practical methods used to increase physical and mental well-being. The use of various Yoga techniques is spreading rapidly in our culture today. The cleansing technique of brushing the teeth has been practiced for thousands of years in the Yoga tradition but it has only been common in Western culture for about 100 years.

Now nasal cleansing is also becoming more widespread in our culture.

I do not keep my RhinoHorn on the counter in the restroom, just as I have learned not to leave my toothbrush in the open air of the restroom.  To find out why, read our OSHA page on sanitation at OSHA Workplace Sanitation

Nasal and sinus cleansing, irrigation and flushing by cleaning nasal passages using the plastic neti pot called Rhinohorn.  Netipots are also called alaneti jala neti or netipot.  Long ago the most common type of nasal flushing and cleaning was performed using a ceramic netipot.  However, with new technology the Rhinohorn netipot has eliminated the need to have a glass type neti pot.  This new plastic netipot is light weight and very easy to travel with.  No fear of having broken glass in your luggage or bathroom when you use the Rhinohorn plastic neti pot.  The Rhinohorn flushes sinus infection sinus infections while irrigation removes the particulate matter found in the air.  We are constantly breathing in dust mites pollen human skin spores and bacteria.   I have found that my netipot helps me have some relief from nasal congestion when I get a cold.  There is not much that we can take that will help give us cold relief without having to take medicine.  This is one thing that I can use and not worry about taking expensive medicine that makes me sleepy.  Just give me aspirin and a netipot for my winter cold relief.

Oh, but I must digress and try to remind people to wash their hands.

One major thing that you can do to reduce the likelihood of having a cold transmitted to you is to wash your hands frequently and try to shake hands as little as possible.  Desks in the workplace have been found to have more germs than most public restrooms.  Public restrooms normally get cleaned on a regular basic; however, the desk in the workplace probably never has all of the desk items cleaned and wiped down with a disinfectant.  I have found that alcohol wipes work very well with most desk items.

How many times have you had someone walk up to your desk and use your mouse and keyboard to show you something or work on your PC?  You do not know how dirty their hands maybe or if the person even washed their hands during their last restroom visit.  It is really a nasty world in some of the cleanest looking offices.  Do your part to eliminate the spread of germs and bacteria by following theses tips:

  1. Use a disinfectant at your desk on a regular basis.

  2. Avoid shaking hands when possible.

  3. Keep antibacterial lotion readily available for use after you do shake hands.  (A pocket size is available.)

  4. Wash your hands after going to the restroom.  (Be careful not to get your hands dirty again when opening the door to exit the restroom.)

  5. Wash your hands before snacks and meals.

  6. When you purchase a canned drink from a vending machine, wipe the top off with one of your alcohol wipes.  (These cans are many times stored in warehouses where roosting birds are a problem, rodents exist, or roaches live.)

  7. Avoid being in areas where you know people are sick.  Office employee are normally ready to share, especially a cold.

  8. Do not go to lunch with a sick person.

  9. If you have a cold, do not visit the elderly.  Your visit just might be the thing that puts someone in their grave.

Flu shots are not designed to keep a person form contracting the flu.  Instead, the flu shot is to reduce the chance of the person dieing or being hospitalized because of the flu.  This is why the elderly are advised to get a flu shot.  Help the elderly, let them know that someone in your family is sick so that they will be less likely to visit your home.  This will also let the elders know why you are not visiting them.
